Terms of employment
We offer attractive terms of employment:
Salary and allowances
- An attractive salary.
- Vacation allowance of 8%.
- Vitality budget of € 37.70 gross per month + 2.36% of the gross monthly salary including holiday allowance based on 40 hours per week.
- Mobility budget of € 27 net per month based on 40 hours per week.
- Compensation for healthcare expenses of € 36.67 gross per month based on 40 hours per week.
- Compensation for commuting expenses of €0.23 per kilometers up to a maximum of 25 kilometers single journey OR reimbursement of cost of public transport for commuting by using the NS business card for commuter travel.
- Working from home allowance of €2.35 per day.
Vacation and leave
- 34 vacation days based on 40 hours per week.
- The possibility to sell 112 hours of leave and to purchase 120 hours of leave (and to purchase 120 hours extra leave for special personal circumstances, like informal caregiving) based on 40 hours per week.
- 100% paid additional birth leave.

- We think it is important that our employees can understand an English-speaking Deltares speech. And that non-Dutch speakers at least have sufficient command of the Dutch language to get acquainted with Deltares, and can actively contribute to a social talk. If the ambition is to work in a Dutch-speaking context, the required Dutch language level is higher. To facilitate this, Deltares offers language training courses.

Additional terms of employment
- Deltares offers a contract for 12 months with the intention of a contract for an indefinite period of time.
- ABP pension. Deltares accounts for approximately 2/3 of the monthly contribution.

The origins of Deltares
Deltares was established in 2008 after the merger of GeoDelft; Delft Hydraulics; parts of TNO Built
Environment and Geosciences and parts of the specialist services RIZA, RIKZ and DWW of
Rijkswaterstaat. The establishment of a research and innovation centre for delta issues was vitally
important in order to keep the vulnerable and flood-sensitive Dutch delta liveable in a sustainable
way. The aim was to advise both the government and the business community and to combine and
strengthen the knowledge available in the Netherlands so that innovative solutions could be found
to address the consequences of climate change. Deltares was also expected to play an important
role in providing international access to Dutch knowledge in the field of water management.
Our knowledge base goes back almost a 100 years. Closing off the old Zuider Zee with the Afsluitdijk barrier dam required new knowledge. That led to the establishment of the Waterloopkundig Laboratorium (hydraulic laboratory) in 1927. One of the most important factors that led to the creation of Deltares: the Afsluitdijk barrier dam.
Deltares is an independent applied research institute in the area of water and subsurface.
We are involved throughout the world in smart innovations, solutions and applications for people,
environment and society. We focus primarily on deltas, coastal regions and river catchments.
Managing these densely-populated and vulnerable areas is complex and so we work closely with
government authorities, commercial companies, research institutes and universities in the
Netherlands and internationally. Our motto is "Enabling Delta Life". As an applied research institute,
Deltares is successful if its knowledge is put to good use in and for society. Deltares is very
demanding when it comes to the quality of its knowledge and advice.
