What can you expect as geophysicist?
Our department measures, characterises and models the subsurface and applies this knowledge to issues to keep our delta liveable. These questions concern, for example, availability of groundwater and raw materials, coastal management, energy transition, resilient infrastructure and water safety. As geophysicist
you will work on interdisciplinary projects. You will collaborate extensively with the various units of Deltares. Good communication and an entrepreneurial mind set is therefore a must for the successful performance of this job.
The key is understanding the subsurface system and linking this to other disciplines such as hydrology and geotechnical engineering. You will be working in a team of 20 highly motivated and curiosity driven professionals.
The job
Your main activities are:
- Setting up and working on applied research projects in the field of shallow subsurface geophysics mainly in the Netherlands;
- You work on onshore and offshore projects using a variety of geophysical methods, with a focus on electrical and electromagnetic geophysical surveying methods;
- Your work will include data acquisition, -processing, –interpretation, - data science/fusion and reporting;
- You develop algorithms/ software packages appropriate for advance geophysical processing;
- You lead and participate innovations for applying shallow subsurface geophysics for geo-engineering, hydrology and environmental applications;
- You help in acquiring new applied research- and specialized consultancy projects, manage projects and write and present (research) results;
- You review results of geophysical projects and improve quality of applied methods and workflows.
Job qualifications
- At least MSc degree in geophysics of physics;
- You have 5 year experience in leading projects of and proven experience with shallow subsurface projects including data acquisition, -processing and -interpretation (experience with executing and processing electrical and electromagnetic geophysical surveys specifically is a must);
- You are proficient in programing (Python and/or Matab) and Git;
- Proven experience with new application of data science and machine learning in the field of (geo)physics;
- A proven affinity with applied research and you are keen to keep a close eye on scientific developments;
- You have an international network in academics and applied research;
- You can monitor projects from proposal to final product, you can formulate customer requirements in terms of project planning to arrive at a final result that enjoys wide support;
- You like to lead a team and know how to inspire young researchers to come up with innovative and creative solutions.
