Advisor/researcher greenhouse gases
Due to the expansion of the new Delta lab with a greenhouse gas facility, we are looking for a researcher with in-depth expertise in carbon and greenhouse gases. Will you help make Deltares a benchmark in applied research relating to greenhouse gases?
What can you expect Advisor/researcher greenhouse gases
In the first months, the focus of your work will be mainly on the establishment of the facility, equipment and development of methodologies. In doing so, you will support the lab's strategic team. With the aim of becoming the starting point for knowledge development to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, as laid down in European and national climate policy.
You will work on projects, contributing to knowledge development in the field of greenhouse gas emissions from water and soil. As the facility develops, you will take on more coordinative tasks.
Work includes:
- Exploring the frontier of knowledge: Developing new techniques and methods. Carrying out projects using the facility you helped set up!
- Sharing knowledge: Processing and reporting data. You identify trends and patterns in greenhouse gas emissions and interpretive parameters. You write reports and possibly scientific articles about findings and recommendations.
- Thinking along and seizing opportunities: Responding to, identifying, picking up and develop opportunities. Especially for the greenhouse gas emissions portfolio and for projects that contribute to one of the Deltares missions (the so-called moonshots) “Energy transition and climate neutrality”.
Your team
You are part of the laboratory team that is part of the Subsurface and Water Quality department. In addition to your role, we are also looking for a Research Analyst with whom you collaborate a lot. Together with the analyst and other colleagues, you will realize the expansion of greenhouse gases at the Delta lab. You are based in Delft.
What do we expect of you as advisor/researcher greenhouse gases?
- Master of Science or recently completed a PhD. Your background can be anything: microbiological, geological, chemical, biological, physical, as long as you have expertise in the field of greenhouse gases and carbon, and at least 3 years of experience in experimental research (experiment design, method development, method balancing(insight).
- Strong communication skills (preferably speaking both English and Dutch).
- We need someone who can bring structure to a large task. Someone who can keep an overview.

- Deltares offers a one-year contract with the intention of permanent employment. Salary will be based on your experience with a minimum of €4253,- and a maximum of €7,089,- gross per month based on 40 hours per week.
